It is with great sadness that The Discworld Convention has heard that Sir Terry Pratchett passed away on 12 March 2015.
Many of us have known his works for decades, and through his works we have learned about the man himself, his love for knowledge and his love for language. Many a fan has even had the fortune of getting to know him in person, from brief encounters during a signing session to long conversations in the bar at a Convention. And no matter what the conversation was about, no matter if it was in the bar or during an interview on stage, one thing was always clear: There was always one more book, no, there were always several more books, that still needed to be written. They won't be any more, and we will have to settle for the impressive amount of works he has created in the past. Many have been read several times, and many will be re-read again in the future.
We wish to extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends, and hope they find strength in the knowledge that in his life, he has touched so many people. He made us laugh, he made us cry, and above all, he made us think about the world.
The Discworld Convention has always been about celebrating the life and works of Sir Terry Pratchett. And although he will not be joining us in person, in his stories he will be with us, as we remember and celebrate his legacy at the Discworld Convention 2016.
A Just Giving page donating to the Research Institute to the Care of Older People (RICE) has been set up in his memory.
